Frequently Asked Questions

  • What currency is used in Cambodia and what is the exchange rate?

Cambodia uses both the Khmer Riel and the US dollar. The general exchange rate is 4000 KHR to 1 USD but in larger cities such as Phnom Penh and Siem Reap the rate can fluctuate between 4,100 and 4,200 KHR to 1 USD.

  • Do I need vaccinations to travel to Cambodia?

There are vaccinations that are recommended when travelling in Cambodia. Check with your local GP about the advised vaccinations for this destination.

  • What should I pack for my trip to Cambodia?

General items that are good to bring with you include trainers/walking shoes, a camera, sun protection (hat & sunscreen), mosquito repellant, clothing that covers knees and shoulders for temple areas, a rain jacket, power converters and a travel card. We will provide a full packing list upon booking that is specific to your tour.

  • What are the tour guides like and will they be travelling with the group?

Our tour guides are all English-speaking, experienced guides. They will be travelling with your throughout the tour, guiding you through each location and activity and are available for support, should you have any questions or need anything during your tour.

We will request any dietary requirements before the tour and make sure all the restaurants we visit are able to cater to all dietary needs before visiting.

  • What is the dress code for temples?

Knees and shoulders need to be covered at all times for both men and women when visiting the temples as a sign of cultural respect. Good walking shoes should be worn for uneven paths.

  • Is the water safe to drink in Cambodia?

Tap water in Cambodia is not safe to drink. At Adventure Travel Co. we are always doing our best to limit the amount of plastic we use as part of our tours. We appreciate your efforts to minimize even a little of the 4.6 million plastic bottles going into Cambodia’s landfills every year. Your transport and accommodations will have clean, fresh drinking water for reusable bottle refills throughout your time in Cambodia.

  • What is the local food in Cambodia?

A typical Cambodian meal consists of rice, meat or fish, vegetables and spices. Some famous Cambodian dishes include Fish Amok, Beef Lok Lak, Khmer Curry and Tom Yum Soup.

  • Is Cambodia a safe country?

Cambodia is generally safe but of course, common sense is needed. Cambodian people give a warm, open and friendly welcome to tourists and they appreciate that tourism is a big part of boosting their economy. However, there is petty crime such as pickpocketing and theft, so we recommend keeping your belongings close to you particularly in busy streets and areas, and especially in larger cities.

  • Why do people visit Cambodia?

Cambodia is renowned for its friendly and kind people. When visiting, you'll be overwhelmed with smiles and warm welcomes from adults and children alike as Cambodians love to meet people from other countries and make new friends. Cambodia is also famous for its World Heritage Listed temples, most notably Angkor Wat.
